April Showers

I grew up afraid of April showers

But dreaming of the May wild flowers

Praying the beauty would spring up without the storm

Tried to get around the darker clouds

Only to end up surrounded

Well consider my fear confronted

I can hate but I know

There’s a reason for the rain

A season for my pain

That allowed me to grow

Bloom brighter then before

I’ll always fear the unknown

And it’s okay that I don’t know

At the end of every April

Is the rainbow

Scared of the rain, but I hated the drought

How long would it last? Would I ever get out?

At least I knew the rain marked the start of the spring

But when greens turned a burnt yellow brown

Lifeless dreams all fell to the ground

But for the first time, I praised the rain when it fell

Well I can hate it, but I know

There’s a reason for the rain

A season for my pain

That allowed me to grow

Bloom brighter then before

I’ll always fear the unknown

And it’s okay that I don’t know

At the end of every April

Is the rain—boooow

I grew up afraid of April showers

But dreaming of the May wild flowers
